Weekly Meal Breakdown #18

This weeks starts the first of six weeks where our roommate C will not be here. He's going to Europe and won't be back until sometime towards the end of August. In two years I've went from cooking for 4 people to 2 people to 4 people to 3 people and now I'm back to 2 people. I wonder how long its going to take me to adjust again.

With 2 months 1 week and 5 days until the wedding (AHHH!) I also need to start eating healthier and exercising. With the support of some of the girls on the September 2010 chat boards, we've all decided to start Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. My DVD came in last week and I promptly turned it face down on the counter. She looks a bit scary and I don't like exercising so this is really going to be a love-hate relationship. I did sign up on her website for a free 30 day trial to get different recipes and possibly track my progress. Since you have to pay $20 a month after the 30 days, I think I'm going to use a free website to track what I eat. Probably sparkpeople.com. I have 8-10 lbs to lose in the next 30 days so we'll see what happens.

And now onto the breakdown of meals! I know that most of them aren't things that you would want to eat in the summer (stuffing, soup and chili) but I feel like I'm running out of summer foods to make. Tom really wanted stuffing and I really wanted chili so I figured screw it, its not like we don't have central air that keeps the apartment quite cold.

Monday - Rotisserie chicken with stuffing, mashed potatoes and corn
Rotisserie chicken $6.99 (The rest of it is being used for sandwiches this week)
2 stalks celery $0.28
onion $0.14
4 potatoes $0.64
1/4 bag frozen corn kernels $0.22
Total: $8.27

Tuesday - Steak with baked potato and salad (broccoli and cheese for Tom)
2 steaks $9.24
2 potatoes $0.32
lettuce, tomato, carrots $0.42
broccoli $0.89
cheese $0.76
Total: $11.63

Wednesday - Bacon wrapped pork tenderloin with roasted potatoes
1 pork tenderloin  $3.41
3 slices bacon $0.36
dried cherries  $0.45
3 potatoes  $0.48
Total: $4.70
Thursday - Shrimp bisque
1/2 bag of shrimp $4
red pepper $0 (I bought one last week and didn't make the dinner I needed to use it for)
half and half $1.69
onion $0.14
tomato sauce $1
Total: $6.83
Friday -  Awesome Chili
1 lb. ground beef $2.89
onion $0.14
tomato sauce $1
diced tomatoes $0.75
chili with beans $1.79
green chiles $0.89
red kidney beans $0.75
1 cup cheddar cheese $0 (left over from last week as well)
Total: $8.21

The total for this week is $39.64. I'm not really impressed with that. I know that we're using the rotisserie chicken for sandwiches and the chili will make more that enough leftovers, but it still seems kind of high for two people. Maybe next week, even though I'm using some Jillian Michaels recipes, will be a bit cheaper. We'll just have to see!
