Hot Turkey Sandwich

There are a lot of sandwich recipes out there for what you can do with leftover turkey.

  • turkey with cream cheese and bacon on a bagel
  • turkey, arugula, muenster cheese and honey mustard on a ciabatta roll
  • turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce on a sub roll
  • turkey mixed with mayo, lettuce and onions to form a turkey salad on a kaiser roll
  • turkey reuben
  • turkey cuban sandwiches
  • turkey banh mi
I could go on and on and on. I've actually tried quite a few of the fancier sandwich options that you can make with leftover turkey, but to be honest, my favorite sandwich that can be made with leftover turkey is by far the simplest of them all.

It's a hot turkey sandwich which is nothing more than warmed up gravy and turkey poured over some white bread and served open-faced.

Thanksgiving is all about comforting foods and there is not much more comforting than one of these sandwiches.

This is one of those dishes that no matter how hard I try, I can't get a pretty picture of, simply because it's not meant to be a pretty food. It's meant to be warm, filling and hearty.

Servings: 1

    • 2 slices bread
    • 2-3 slices turkey
    • 1/2 cup gravy
    • salt and pepper, to taste
1. Heat the gravy in a medium saucepan over low heat. Add in the turkey and cook for 2-3 minutes or until warmed through.
2. Pour turkey and gravy over two slices of bread. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Simple. Quick. Easy.

You could increase the amount of gravy and heat up some leftover mashed potatoes as well, or warm up any side dishes you may still have remaining in the fridge.
