Ingredients

  • 1 box puff pastry thawed
  • 3 medium Envy Apples peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup sanding sugar optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Combine apples, sugar and cinnamon together in a medium bowl, tossing to coat. Set aside.
  • Unfold one sheet of puff pastry and place it onto the prepared baking sheet. Roll it out to a 12x16 rectangle. On the long ends, use a sharp knife to cut in 2 inches from either end, creating strips that you can fold up.
  • Repeat with the other sheet of puff pastry.
  • Layer half of the apple mixture down the center of the puff pastry and fold in the strips, alternating sides to create a braided look. Repeat with the remaining apples and sheet of puff pastry.
  • Lightly beat the egg in a small bowl and brush on top of both puff pastry braids.
  • Sprinkle the sanding sugar on top of both braids.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
  • Cool slightly on the baking sheet before cutting into 4-6 pieces per braid.

Notes

If you don't have sanding sugar, a coarse sugar will work the same.
