Ingredients

Burgers

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • ½ cup Panko bread crumb
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon green onions chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

To Serve

  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 slices tomato
  • 4 slices pineapple
  • ½ cup lettuce leaves
  • 1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce see notes for homemade version

Instructions

Burgers

  • Combine ground turkey, Panko bread crumbs, onion powder, chopped green onions, salt and pepper together in a large bowl.
  • Form into 4 patties. Refrigerate until grill is hot.
  • Heat a grill to medium high heat. Place burger patties on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, flipping over once.
  • Add slices of cheese to the burgers and cook another minute or so, until cheese has melted. While cheese is melting, add pineapple to the grill and grill 1-2 minutes per side.

To Assemble and Serve:

  • Spread the teriyaki sauce on the top and bottom of the bun.
  • Layer the lettuce and tomato on the bottom part of the bun, followed by the burger.
  • Add a slice of pineapple on top and the other half of the bun.

Notes

Homemade Teriyaki: combine ¼ cup soy sauce and ¼ cup honey with 1 teaspoon each of minced garlic and ground ginger, 2 tablespoon of rice wine vinegar, 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and ½ of water in a pot. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently, then reduce to a simmer, stirring occasionally until it reaches your desired consistency. Cook time: approx 10 minutes.
Substitute: Swiss or Provolone would be a great cheese on this burger. Bacon would be a great add too. Skip the bun and serve over a salad.
