Pear Ginger Pie is a gorgeous pie made with fresh pears and ginger and topped with a streusel crumble topping, making it the star of your holiday table.
Pears are such an underutilized fruit. They're delicious, full of flavor and come in a ton of varieties, but there are not a ton pear varieties out there. Like most fruits, they can be made in sweet or savory recipes, but the variety of pear recipes is lacking. While pears and pie is pretty common, I think the addition of fresh ginger in this recipe makes it extra special.
WHAT IS A PEAR GINGER PIE?
Similar to an apple pie, ripe pears are peeled, cored and sliced and layered on top of pie crust. Ground nutmeg and cinnamon, as well as fresh ginger adds to the festive flavors of this pie. A streusel topping is sprinkled over the pie before it is baked to create a gorgeous, crumbly topping.
WHAT KIND OF PEARS CAN BE USED IN THE PIE?
There are quite a few varieties of pears that can be found in grocery stores. Some are better for poaching, others for baking and some are the preferred variety to eat raw.
Bartlett, Anjou and Bosc pears are three different pear varieties that are good choices for baking. Each variety is sweet and juicy, making it a good choice for baking.

Ginger and pear go so well together! I had a slice of this pie and couldn't get over how delicious it was. One of my coworkers completely agreed, as he asked me if I could make him one for Thanksgiving! I absolutely can!
